The Islamic Brotherhood, the Means to Success
07 February 2006
Translation

In retrospect, the birth of the Ummah´s development from century to century, has recorded truly impressive challenges, faced by the followers of Islam in their effort to raise the banner of Allah Almighty. From the time of the Prophet (s.a.w.) right up to this day, Islam has continually encountered enemies openly and from diverse sources.

Wherever we are, indeed in all corners of the world, the Ummah is facing challenges in addition to pressures and oppressions, which are truly agonising. In the East and West, North and South, the Ummah is now exposed to all kinds of provocations.

And what is happening in Israel today, is the witnessing of efforts by the Jews to eradicate the brilliant history of the Ummah in the form of the Masjidil Aqsa, which bore witness to the Prophet´s Ascension to the heavens referred to as Isra´ and Me´raj. Moreover, Israel has never been satisfied over the presence and existence of the Ummah, possessing a never ending grudge.

History bears witness to this through conflicts which ignited incidences, tragedies and bitter sweet events amongst the Ummah. Baitul Maqdis, Gaza, Sinai and the West bank of the River Jordan were all seized, with Masjidil Aqsa on the verge of ruin now. Indeed Israel is never satisfied nor will they give up. This is also evident in recorded history the Jews interfered by sending troops into Eriteria in order to support the Habshah regime, with the intention of creating chaos amongst the Islamic guerrillas, even though in reality, the regime is a close enemy of the Jews.

At the same time, the Jews like ´thorns in the flesh´ were playing a role of discord when Morocco was having disagreements with Algeria, Libya with Egypt and Sudan, North Yemen and South Yemen, while Iran was pitched against Iraq. Allah Almighty says: “Never will the Jews or the Christians be satisfied with you unless you follow their form of religion.” (Surah Baqarah 2:120)

Even today, the Jews hold on to their Zionist plans, in which their protocol is committed to vanquishing Islam.

Islamic etiquettes of the Ummah´s civilisation have been affronted from a variety of aspects which include culture, education, economy, sociology, literature, politics, weaponry, history and so forth.

Apart from this, the Ummah is also facing a number of obstacles and internal challenges. Among them are the problems of poverty, crisis of values and self-identity, conflicts of opinion with one another, and the failure of institutions that were given the responsibility as the Prophet´s successor to advance the Ummah. These factors are enough to cause the Ummah to end up weaker, with no aspirations for their own and the Ummah´s continued survival. This is very evident in terms of their ignorance concerning Islam as a ´Way of Life´. If it were not for Allah´s promise to continue safeguarding and protecting those who have faith, surely events more devastating would have befallen the Ummah.

When facing this wholly demanding era of post-Modernism, the Ummah has to reinforce the culture of seeking knowledge in its entirety while at the same time undertake to unite Islamic Brotherhood through sincerity, without creating ethnic groups, ensuring the equal distribution of wealth, so that envy and jealousy does not arise, thus making it possible to attain the glory of the Islamic civilisation. Indeed, the ummah must construct a new historical era based on past experiences which have become perimeters and lessons.

All this will be undertaken by those who appreciate unity and love their country, not those who are self-centred.

In the past, when Muslims were struck by defeat and backwardness, they immediately went into self-introspection and examined their deeds; what were their mistakes and vices that they had committed? If they undertook this, it would immediately cause them to return to the path of Allah Almighty and that of His Messenger s.a.w.

Even if they are fewer in compared to their enemies, in terms of numbers or weaponry and equipment, it would not affect them if they undertook self examination and had corrected themselves, Allah Almighty would bestow upon them victory as a realisation of His promise as mentioned in the Qur´an: “If you will aid (the cause of) Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly. (Surah Muhammad 47:7)

Some of the steps that need to be taken to ensure victory for Islam as drawn up by the best generations of this Ummah include:

1. Holding onto the truthfulness of the Islamic Creed (Aqidah) and the Oneness of God (Tawheed), faithfully acknowledging that there is only Allah Almighty, through all acts of devotion and righteous deeds, as well as abandoning all forms of idolatry.

2. Striving to give up immoral conduct and vice, this is often committed by individuals and by groups.

3. Striving to perform the daily obligatory prayer in congregation at mosque with other Muslims.

4. To give out charity to the destitute and the poor within one´s means, either in small or large amounts, because charity that is given through sincerity and in confidential can erase the anger of Allah Almighty.

5. Wearing Islamic clothing that covers parts of the body that should not be exposed. In this manner one can guard oneself from the dangers of lust, exhibited by those who possess low mentality. Such will also cause Allah´s Grace and Mercy to descend.

6. Educating your children and family concerning Islam, so that they become like the children of the Companions of the Prophet and in the process become the best generation of this Ummah.

7. To perform additional prayer, especially ´Qiyamullai´, because it will help strengthen faith in Allah.

8. Prepare your self, your family and children to strive to establish and defend Islam for Allah has revealed, “Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror (into the hearts) of the enemies, of God and your enemies…” (Surah Anfal 8:60)

9. Sincerity in all your good deeds, whether in school, as well as at your place of work and activities, to be diligent in all your activities and to ensure that sincerity is always present so that they are all valued and rewarded by Allah.

10. To act justly in all forms of charitable activities within your capacity, whether in the form of social community, or Islamic community, as long as it does not clash with the teachings of Islam.

11. Offer a lot of supplications to Allah in the hope of becoming strengthened and remain steadfast when walking the straight path, humbling oneself when prostrating to Him and asking for His forgiveness.

12. Be certain that Allah´s help will come for those who have faith if they truly have faith in Allah´s guidance and His Messenger. “If you will aid (the cause of) Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly. (Surah Muhammad 47:7)

13. Do not give up due to the weight of the battle and the distance of the journey towards victory in Islam, because the disease of the Ummah today has reached a chronic level, and which has affected them over a long period of time. Thus, treatment requires a lengthy period of time. It requires patience and perseverance.

History is one of the mirrors that have the capability to reflect the true face of the Ummah. The question is, do we regard the glorious history of the previous Ummah as a mirror to adorn the characteristics of today´s Ummah, or is the mirror left to crack into a thousand pieces?
