Gangsterism Amongst Youth
It is indeed saddening to witness our children change from a loving person, obedient and loyal to a person that likes to hurt, bully, shout, ill mannered, aggressive, rude and could not care less about others. We can’t imagine this taking place. Normally, male children are easily influenced by social symptoms. In a technical sense, anyone, regardless of sex, is at risk over being influenced to joining gangsters. On becoming aware that your child has been influenced by gangsters, it is indeed important for you to stop him immediately.
There is a case where a father from Seremban called in the police and accused them of holding on to his son. That is the only thing that he could do. Even though he had received objections from his wife, he knew that was the only best thing he could do to control his son. He knew that his wife and he were no longer able to control the child they loved. Just imagine how painful it was. We hope that we do not go through the same experience as they did.
There are many signs or indications of involvement with gangsters. Some of them are evident and while some require questioning and investigation by concerned parents. What is important to undertake some form of action concerning it and not to ignore the matter. Some parents ignore it because they consider it out of their jurisdiction and are ignorant over what can be done, or simply do not want to be involved in the lives of their children. In short, it can be said that they have given up.
Do Not Give Up Hope
What is important is that you should not give up hope over your child. In reality, you are their only hope. Get close to them; they need you just as they needed you when they were infants. They require love and affection, attention and a different approach to raising them. Your child may not reveal all these warnings in your presence, but observe them from a distance and this may infringe on their rights. However, you still need to do so.
The Symptoms
Each group of gangsters have a symbol and of their own. It does not matter whether they are new or whether it is relevant the world of gangsterism, they all have a logo, a signal or a sign of their own. If you child waves to his friend in an explicit manner, be warned. However, don’t be mistaken because sometimes it is something that is imitated from videos, music, movies etc.
For example, if your child imitates an action from Star Trek, this does not mean that he is involved with gangsters. You also do not need to know all the hand signs in the Mafia world, but when you do see something, investigate it through your friends and then wait for an indication.
Absenteeism from School
Absenteeism from school maybe one of the important indications, however, if your child absents himself from school without your knowledge, you need to know about it. Ask your child to provide an explanation. If his explanation is unsatisfactory, look for details and other signs.
Violent
If your child exhibit an undue interest towards movies depicting violence, and reviews them repeatedly as if he were trying to memorise their dialogue and actions, then of a certainty there is something behind it. If he is watching them normally, then there is not need to look into the matter. One can relate his desire to watch movies over and over again with his evident violent actions, which he normally never exhibits. This is indeed an indication of concern to be aware off. What is even more important is to remove any weapon of danger that may be hidden somewhere in his room immediately. If he needs to protect himself, you need to talk to him about it. You should not ignore it. Do not avoid a confrontation as it could involve a life!
Secrets
This is rather difficult to identify if you and your child have no communications. If you question him and he begins to hate you because of it, then it is obvious that something is not right.
WHY?
Studies indicate that the prime cause for children joining gangsters today is due to being able to collect money easily; to acquire drugs and to see protection. Some youths are bullied into joining. If they are afraid, or feel shame and easily bullied, their friends may threaten them by saying, “If you do not join our group, watch out! However if you are together with us, we will protect you and we will make you rich and feared!”
Love Your Children
Just because he has made a mistake, do not leave him to fend for himself or to allow him to go astray. He will become more involved in social crimes. Just reflect over having a child delivering drugs for a group in comparison to your friend’s child who ends up becoming a doctor. You will most certainly ask as to where did you go wrong? You are only wrong if you neglect the well being of your child.
Self-Confidence
Instil within your child with something that can never be changed, notably, confidence in himself. It has been proven that children that possess a high degree confidence in themselves are not involved in gangsterism.
Parental Love
Parental love from the very beginning is very important in the shaping of your child’s future. If there is little love at home, then it will be sought off elsewhere. The same is applicable to money. If they do not receive it, they will seek it elsewhere. Make sure that you always are concerned and observe who your child mixes with and know where he is every time. If he has a cell phone, check if he has switched it off so that you cannot call him. |
