Advice From Imam Ghazali

Imam Ghazali’s disciple had asked him to establish some simple guidelines that he (the student) could follow so that he would be safe in the Hereafter. The following briefly explains the situation:

The weekend will not be complete without visiting ‘Merdeka Square’ (Freedom Square). Fellow compatriots can be found at this place, ready with their vehicles. Tonight is like every weekend night before it, which begins at Merdeka Square and moves towards Jalan Raja Laut, passing by Sogo, the shopping complex, Jalan Chow Kit, with Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman become the designated area to show off one’s prowess and maleness.
Gangsterism Amongst Youth

It is indeed saddening to witness our children change from a loving person, obedient and loyal to a person that likes to hurt, bully, shout, ill mannered, aggressive, rude and could not care less about others. We can’t imagine this taking place. Normally, male children are easily influenced by social symptoms. In a technical sense, anyone, regardless of sex, is at risk over being influenced to joining gangsters. On becoming aware that your child has been influenced by gangsters, it is indeed important for you to stop him immediately.

A study conducted by Illiet Turiel, a development cognitive youth researcher, states that youth groups or peer groups are easily influenced by all kinds of positive and negative elements, depending on the existing forms. This means that if the cosmos of the teenager is always surrounded by positive matters, then the individual will act in a positive manner and likewise if he was not.
Self-examination and Self-criticism Leads One to Perfection

Self improvement requires a person to examine himself. Unless this is undertaken, a person will not be able to visualise his true value. The failure to undertake such may cause a person to be misled into believing that whatever he says or does is right.
