Scholarships, Incentives for Qaris, Students, and Aid to Islamic NGOs
PUTRAJAYA, 5 Feb – In line with the 1Malaysia Concept, which emphasises achievement, the government is bound to provide incentives in the form of cash amounting to RM2,000 on a fixed monthly basis to Qur’anic reciters, who become champions at the National Level of the al-Qur’an Reciters .

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who made the announcement here said that it would begin in October last year right up to the end of their lives.

“This indicates the commitment of the government in recognising and encouraging Muslims to culturalise the Qur’an by making an effort to learn reciting it, living it and adopting its teaching in daily life," he said at a gathering of the Prime Minister together with Ulama and Leaders today.

Also present was the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Senator Datuk Seri Major General Jamil Khir Baharom (B), who is also the President of Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia.

At the same time the Prime Minister also announced the desire of the government to provide allocations to Islamic Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) Islam in the country to implement dakwah activities.

Scholarship by Yayasan 1Malaysia Development Bhd. (MDB) beginning this year will be given to excellent students on leaving Sekolah Menengah Agama (SMA) to enable them to continue their studies at the level of Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perubatan in Egypt.

“The government hopes that we can produce doctors of integrity who are proficient in the Qur’an and Science as well as become innovative specialists in medicine," he said.
